An Australian home at dawn

Heat by Day.Warm All Night.

Australian-made thermal storage that replaces your gas boiler. It charges on your solar, a free power window, or off-peak, then carries your home through the evening. More than nine evenings in ten this winter, the heat pump stayed off from 5pm to 9pm.

Free, no obligation. We confirm your home fits and quote a fixed price.

Stop Wasting Your Solar Energy

Your panels make most of their power between 9am and 3pm. But your home needs energy most at dawn and dusk, when the sun's gone.

So you export cheap solar by day, then buy expensive grid power at peak. With feed-in tariffs near zero and "sun taxes" coming, that exported solar has gone from a credit to a cost.

Your battery wasn't built for heating

You've probably already noticed it. Run the air conditioner for an hour and watch the battery drop off a cliff. Heating and cooling are the biggest loads in your home by a long way, and a home battery is sized for the lights, the fridge and the telly.

Now picture electrifying a 30kW gas boiler. Even through an efficient heat pump, that's more power than most home batteries can deliver, let alone sustain for an evening. You'd flatten it before dinner was over, with nothing left for the rest of the house.

Thermal Dawn stores the energy as heat instead, in a store built for that one job and nothing else. In Hawthorn and Gippsland, the heat pump stayed off through the entire 5pm to 9pm peak on 59 of the last 63 evenings. No lithium, and it isn't competing with the rest of your house for what's left in the tank.

Fossil Fuels Keep Getting More Expensive

Every time you heat or cool at dawn or dusk, you're paying premium rates for fossil-fuel power. Thermal Dawn shifts that demand into the cheapest hours of your tariff, cutting bills and emissions while you stay comfortable year-round.

So what does it cost?

To get what Thermal Dawn does using off-the-shelf parts, you're buying two things, not one.

$20,000 to $40,000

A hydronic heat pump replacement, installed. What it typically costs in Australia to get off gas.

$8,000 to $15,000

A home battery to shift that heating into the cheapest hours of your tariff.

One system instead of two

Thermal Dawn does both jobs in a single install, quoted as one fixed price at your assessment. Thermal storage, cooling and smart controls included.

Every home is different: pipework, placement, switchboard, and how many of the four capabilities you want all move the number. You get a fixed installed price at your free site assessment, with nothing to pay until you approve it.

How Thermal Storage Works

Heating, cooling and hot water are 60 to 70% of the energy you actually control, and most of it hits at peak times when power costs the most.

Thermal Dawn charges when power is cheapest, a free midday window, your own solar, or late-night off-peak, and stores it as heating, cooling, and hot water for when you actually need it: dawn, dusk, and through the night.

More than 9 evenings out of 10

The heat pump doesn't switch on at all between 5pm and 9pm. The house stays warm on stored heat through the priciest hours of the day.

How it runs

It charges when power is cheapest, whether that's a free window, your own solar, or late-night off-peak. Then it holds the heat and runs your house through the evening with the compressor off.

Radiators or a concrete slab, it's the same hardware and the same software. You set your tariff and the temperature you want. It handles the rest.

The last one went in and out in two days.

Measured against the gas heating it replaced, from each system's own telemetry.

Why we're building this

Thermal Dawn was selected for Startmate's 2026 cohort. Here's our founder making the case, to a room of investors and operators, for why Australian homes need thermal storage, not another imported battery.

Nick Zeniou, founder. Startmate Summer '26 Demo Day.

"We've been looking for 5 years for a hydronic heat pump, but we didn't want to pay $25,000. We finally did it."

About us

At Thermal Dawn, we're building the infrastructure Australia needs to shift from imported lithium batteries to sovereign thermal systems that balance our grid, starting with your home. Our thermal batteries solve the problem imported lithium can't: capturing abundant dawn solar and storing it as heating, cooling, and hot water for the peak-demand hours when grid power costs the most.

Our technology is developed in Australia, and our thermal stores are built and assembled at our own production facility in Hornsby, New South Wales, from Australian materials. The store is built to last decades. Thermal Dawn is supported by Cicada Innovations, EnergyLab, and the NSW Office of the Chief Scientist and Engineer, backed by an Investment NSW grant, and a member of the Startmate accelerator. The heat pump is a proven unit we source rather than build; the storage, the controls, and the intelligence that runs them are ours. It's the thermal infrastructure Australia needs, engineered by Australians who live here.
